Difference between sanitization and disinfection:

Sanitization:

-is meant to reduce, not kill the occurence and growth of bacteria

-sanitizing will reduce bacteria to 99.9% but will not do anything about viruses or fungus

-sanitising lowers the number of bacteria on objects or surfaces to a safe level to lower the risk of spreading infections

-sanitization destroys germs to make surfaces safe to be used

-is safe to be applied to food contact surfaces.

Sanitising wipes and disinfecting solution is used for effective sanitisation. The premises can be re-occupied right away.

 

Disinfection:

–disinfectants are much more superior compared to sanitizers because there are some types of pathogenic bacteria that can’t be killed using sanitizers

-involves commercial products such as bleach, alcohols, hypochlorites, hydrogen peroxide to effectively kill bacteria found on surfaces

-effectively kills bacteria, viruses, fungus

-disinfection is appropriate for frequently touched surfaces likely to harbour pathogens

-the house/office/school and other premises can be re-occupied the following day prior ventilation

Foggers and spraying machines are used for disinfection. The surfaces should be cleaned before effective disinfection.
